Who is addressing the hillslope issues faced by KL people?

So kind and generous (yes I am being sarcastic) but mummy always said if you cannot mind your own business don't mind other people's business. Before Barisan kindly offers to help solve hillslope development problems in Penang, have you already addressed all the problems faced by people in Damansara Heights or anywhere else in Kuala Lumpur? The Straits Times tells us that KL is gradually becoming ungreen (see NST link below) and is that not a problem for Barisan to mind, before it minds things happening is someone else's jurisdiction? That same report says, "Originally, Bukit Kiara was designated as a public park, but over the years, its land area had diminished. Part of it has now become housing estates." Someone had better have a talk with the National Landscape Department. Would that be you Barisan? Or maybe we should talk about how the local population feels about the Damansara-Shah Alam Highway (DASH) and how that is going to affect their way of life and their property prices especially when they find themselves looking out of their front doors to face a concrete wall holding up a highway the same as those poor folk in Damansara Kim (opposite Tropicana City Mall) who had no idea what was going to hit them when they bought their homes thirty or so odd years ago. How? Still want to kay poh chee other people's business?

Open Burning? Really? Isn't that illegal? What are the police doing?

Whoa! Isn't this illegal? Are the police looking at this and taking action? That's what I want to know. You guys already know by now how I feel about politicians. I think they are the scum of the earth and deserve to be strung up by their toes and left to fester in the hot noon sun with earthworms and other wriggly things stuffed in their armpits! As such, I really don't give a fig what they choose to do to each other. They could blow each other to smithereens for all I care. But when what they do starts to affect me, well, that's where I draw the line. Now, what I want to know is whether or not open burning is illegal. The photo shows diesel being poured but police will have to determine if the paper was actually set alight or not (and diesel burnt like this produces a lot of smoke, correct me if I am wrong), and if so how to bring the miscreants to justice at a time when one of the biggest words many Malaysians shudder to think of is "HAZE." It is bad enough that we are getting that from fires burning in Indonesia (if what we are told is to be believed), but far worse when our own people are doing this here to us. I don't care if Mr Murugan cares or not whether his grandmother's lungs are damaged by his callous actions, but I care whether my lungs are affected. If nothing else, I think he should be made to sit in a closed up room with piped-in carbon monoxide from a car left running outside it! Thank you The Star for highlighting this act which is not only stupid but potentially illegal!! Now, police, do your duty! It IS what WE pay YOU for!

Freedom come, freedom go, first it's yes and then you tell me no....

Oh! It just gets worse and worse. Do we need to conform even in group discussions over the dinner table? Classrooms? Conference rooms? Office corridors and stairwells? Where will it end?

Will freedom of thought and expression come to an end?

Voltaire was perhaps one of the greatest advocates of civil liberty and ranks right up there with Lincoln, Ghandi and Mandela. Biographer Evelyn Beatrice Hall attempted to capture the essence of how this great man thought and behaved in a line she coined, "I do not agree with what you have to say, but I'll defend to the death your right to say it." Do we need to kill diversity? Even diversity of opinion? I shudder to imagine a world where all of us think one thought only. The one considered "approved." Anyway, who elected you to be the conscience and moral custodian of all of us? Not me, for one!

Newspapers are supposed to be unbiased

I think advertisers should really make their ads much more interesting. Tell stories. Make them more entertaining. That way newspapers can replace rubbish news pages/articles with ads that at least bring some joy and value into the lives of their readers. Just my humble opinion.

Why Good People Can't Get Jobs: Chasing After the 'Purple Squirrel' - Knowledge@Wharton

"The obvious point is that there just aren't enough jobs to go around right now, so employers can certainly be picky. But we're not really talking about being picky here. It's not surprising that employers might actually search more, and it might take them longer to hire now, because there are so many candidates to look at. Why grab the first one when you have this long queue that you could look at? But the unusual thing, and certainly the negative thing, from everybody's perspective is those employers who say, "Look, we're just not hiring, or we're waiting a very long time to hire, because we can't find what we want." I think the place we have to begin to answer that question is back with the employers who are making all those decisions about the process. Are they doing anything wrong?" -- Peter Cappelli

The Power of 10

Last summer a group of people with a common commitment to empowering and inspiring others got together to make a movie. Many are experts in the field of personal and social transformation. Some were like-minded investors. Others were everyday people, simply wanting to contribute.

All were moved by films like "The Secret," and "What the Bleep" -- but thought there was even more to be said on the subjects of manifesting abundance and creating a world that works for everyone. So, they pooled their expertise, time and money to make a bold new documentary film with an equally bold title: THE ANSWER To Absolutely Everything.
Central to our message is sharing inspiration and wisdom to raise the level of consciousness for millions. The law of cause and effect, while coming from abundance, can jump start miraculous outcomes that comes back to you ten-fold. A gift contained in this letter can be downloaded for FREE and shared with numerous friends who can do the same. The spiral effect from passing on the insights in THE ANSWER can ultimately make a difference for everyone.

While the title may be "tongue in cheek," the message is profoundly powerful. It's filled with compelling stories that warm the heart, including Steve Peifer, CNN's 2007 Hero Award winner.

Screenings happened around the world within the first few weeks of release, through a grassroots effort. The film has now been translated into several languages and distributed internationally. And it continues to sell briskly wherever it is shown. The movie's makers also "walk their talk," and keep the promise to share portions of their profits to worthy humanitarian causes.

The growing ANSWER community invites you to join all of us in a new commitment. Harnessing the power of the Internet we are intent on having the movie touch the lives of millions of people over the next few weeks -- through a "say-it-forward" online initiative we're calling THE POWER OF TEN.

If just 100 committed people share this letter and the link below to THE ANSWER's eight-minute online preview with 10 others, it will reach 1000 people. If each of them share it with 10 others it will touch the lives of 10,000. Two more rounds of each recipient sharing 10 and it touches 1,000,000 lives!

Click the link below and experience an 8 minute excerpt of THE ANSWER for yourself. If you are as moved and inspired as I and others have been simply forward this letter and link to ten other people in your life.
